Poroskooppi

The first big Standard event, after rotation, was played last weekend as SCG Baltimore is now in the books. Just to recap, sets that rotated out are Khans of Tarkir and Fate Reforged. This means that Standard will consist of sets starting with Dragons of Tarkir all the way to Shadows over Innistrad until next rotation (happens in Fall).

Bant Company won the event, handily crushing the aggressive opposition by being one step "bigger". Multiple aggressive White Human Aggro decks made it to the Top 8. However, in my mind, the most interesting deck in the Top 8 was:

UR Control

4 Thing in the Ice
4 Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
2 Jori En, Ruin Diver

2 Chandra, Flamecaller

1 Anticipate
2 Fall of the Titans
4 Fiery Temper
1 Kozilek's Return
4 Lightning Axe
3 Pyromancer's Goggles
3 Magmatic Insight
4 Tormenting Voice

3 Island
7 Mountain
4 Drownyard Temple
3 Highland Lake
4 Shivan Reef
4 Wandering Fumarole
1 Yavimaya Coast

Sideboard

4 Eldrazi Obligator
4 Fevered Visions
1 Kozilek's Return
3 Negate
2 Void Shatter
1 Chandra, Flamecaller

Here on home ground Highlander Champs took place this past weekend with 51 players participating.  The newly crowned Champion is Mikael Heikinheimo playing 4C Blood. Mikael has been so hot lately that Ari Hämäläinen couldn't stand a chance in the finals with his Burn deck. Other Top 8 competitors were: Jussi Venäläinen, Simo Stigman, Sami Koivisto, Ville Teräväinen, Tuomo Lehtilä & Tero Salama.

Have a good Monday everybody,

Sami Häggkvist
